For Sale: 1931 0-21 Martin  Guitar

For sale: an exquisite 1931 0-21 Martin guitar, serial # 46522, in excellent condition. These small-bodied 12-ftret Martins are famous for their warm, rich tone and this one is no exception. The bass is deep and pure, and the treble strings have a golden, buttery tone. The tonal balance of this guitar-a full bass that does not overpower the treble- makes it ideal for fingerstyle playing.     The guitar, which according to the Martin company's production records is one of only 75 0-21s made in 1931, is completely original with a few minor exceptions. The neck was reset and the fingerboard refretted and the bridge replaced by TJ Thompson of Lexington MA, an expert luthier specializing in restoring prewar Martins. The tuning post of the low E string was also replaced, and an aluminum endpin was substituted for the original wooden one. But the guitar has never been refinished or oversprayed, and George Gruhn confirmed this with a blacklight test when he examined the guitar on Sept. 23rd of this year. The braces and bridgeplate are also original, although some braces were reglued by Steve Brown of Schecnectady NY, an authorized Martin repairman. There is some pick wear below the soundhole, and there are a few dings as you would expect an 82-year old guitar to have. Extra photos are available on request.
